Jacob Fronthouse Awesome album of genre-evocative gnarlys dressed with eldritch tunes and harmonies. A song like Flash-april sounds like a hit...but not from this dimension.

Other personal favorites would be Middle Jump, Hurry Up So I Can Catch Up, Aspirations. Favorite track: Flash-april.

about

“Princes” is a product of several years of analyzing my musical influences. I picked them apart, distilled them to their formal essence, and resynthesized them in specific combinations to supply the basis for new compositions. The album contains tributes to composers ranging from French classicists Maurice Ravel and Henri Dutilleux to Wayne Shorter, Frank Zappa, Trey Anastasio, and David Shea. However, the models act primarily as “containers” for my own harmonic experiments, which relate to the style of only a few of these artists.

In arranging the music, I decided on a stripped-down setting inspired by the popular instrumental groups of the 60's and 70's (subjected to various rhythmic and stylistic mutations). I was helped in this direction by a vintage Philipps Philicorda electric organ, which I used throughout the composition and recording process. I was also very lucky to be joined on the recording by an intensely talented and versatile group of musicians, who gave life and integrity to my Frankenstein-like creations. The result is a set of divergent, unapologetically personal testimonies about my musical experiences, but also a unified whole beyond its eccentric mix of influences.

"A music mix you do not often come across: rock, experimental, and contemporary composition going together with a jazz attitude. …Powerful pieces, to which the musicians – even within the predefined structures – intensely give substance." -Vera Vingerhoeds
